EnviroFlex™ 1LB 4' x 25' MLV Soundproofing

Manufacturer-Direct Mass Loaded Vinyl

EnviroFlex™ 1 LB Mass Loaded Vinyl is manufactured by EnviroFlex, a Quebec-based producer of recycled rubber and vinyl products. When you buy from Sheets & Rolls, you're buying directly from the source — no distributor, no middleman, no markup stacked on top of someone else's margin. The same commercial-grade MLV used by acoustical contractors on professional installations is available to you at trade pricing.

How it works

Mass loaded vinyl works on a simple principle: sound transmission through a wall, floor, or ceiling is directly related to the mass of that assembly. Heavier surfaces transmit less sound. MLV adds mass in a thin, flexible, limp layer — dense enough to meaningfully block airborne noise, flexible enough to install on irregular surfaces, in vehicle door cavities, and behind finished wall assemblies without requiring structural modifications.

EnviroFlex 1LB MLV carries a 26 STC (Sound Transmission Class) rating, which corresponds to a reduction of approximately 20 dB in airborne sound — enough to reduce loud conversation to barely audible levels through a treated wall or ceiling.

What it's used for

  • Apartment and condo party walls — blocking neighbor noise
  • Home theater walls, floors, and ceilings
  • Recording studio isolation
  • HVAC duct wrapping and mechanical room liners
  • Generator and compressor enclosures
  • Cargo van and truck cab soundproofing
  • Boat engine bay insulation
  • Basement ceiling liners beneath noisy rooms
  • Laundry room and home office walls

Installation

Cut to size with a standard utility knife — score and snap, or cut cleanly in a single pass. Fasten to wall studs or ceiling joists using screws with large fender washers, cap nails, or construction adhesive. The material is flexible enough to drape over curves, wrap around corners, and fit inside irregular cavities. Seal all seams and perimeter edges with EnviroFlex MLV Seam Tape to maintain the acoustic barrier. Ships rolled — unroll and allow 15–20 minutes to relax flat before cutting.

Specifications

Density 1 lb per square foot
STC Rating 26
Thickness 1/8" (0.125")
Color Black
Material Post-industrial recycled vinyl
Lead / fiberglass None
Fire rating Fire-retardant

Soundproofing Performance

What STC 26 Means in a Real Wall Assembly

MLV works by adding dense, flexible mass to the wall system. The standalone STC rating matters, but the bigger result comes from how the material performs as part of a complete wall, ceiling, or enclosure assembly.

Standalone STC shows material performance

For this product, STC 26 gives shoppers a simple way to understand the material’s sound-blocking capability before installation.

Assemblies perform better than single layers

MLV is most effective when combined with drywall, insulation, sealed seams, and proper mechanical fastening.

Seams and gaps matter

Sound travels through weak points. Seal seams, edges, outlets, and penetrations to get the best result from the system.

Important: STC results depend on the full assembly, including framing, insulation, drywall layers, sealed seams, penetrations, and installation quality.
